Overview

Athletes in grades 9-12 have the opportunity to compete regionally with surrounding far northeast schools in 4A competition. Practices take place at Montbello campus; students may ride the Success Express or are responsible for their own transportation.

FNERAAPThe Far Northeast Regional Athletic and Activities Program gives student-athletes an additional opportunity to represent the Early College.  Intramural games and tournaments such as 3v3 soccer and 3v3 basketball are offered.

Overview

Martin Luther King Jr. Early College after school athletics is a full comprehensive athletic program in the DPSNuggets/ Avalanche Prep League. The athletic program competes against middle schools from across the district.Athletes in grades 6-8 compete against schools in both the far northeast and Denver area.

Requirements

  • Students must have a physical form and emergency form completed before they can try-out or practice.
  • Physicals may be completed by your family doctor or at the school health clinic.
  • It is the student’s responsibility to schedule a physical prior to the season beginning and give the completed form to the coach.
  • Students must maintain academic and behavioral eligibility.
  • All grades must be a C or better to play and behavior must be satisfactory in all classes and throughout the school throughout the season.

Fees

  • Once the student has made the team, a $25 participation fee must be paid prior to the first game for each sport; DPS officials and playoffs.

Schedules, Practices & Games

  • Practices are held after school Monday through Friday from 2:40 to 4:00.
  • Practices take place at MLKJEC.
  • Students are responsible for providing transportation home following practices and games; this is not provided by MLK.
  • Most games; begin at 3:45, transportation will not be provided after games.
  • You can find game schedules and directions to away games on the district website.

Futures Athletics

7th and 8th graders of the current school year have the opportunity to learn from, and get exposure to, high school athletics through this program. Sports include football, basketball and volleyball.
