Parents

All Students who attend Martin Luther King Jr. Early College must comply with the dress requirements during the school day. Failure to arrive at school in proper attire may result in phone calls home for change of clothing and/or detention for students who dress inappropriately.

Registration Information

Martin Luther King, Jr. Early College-Documents Required for Registration

Before the registration process begins at the school, you must FIRST visit or contact the Choice Office at Evie Dennis- 720.423.7627 or http://schoolchoice.dpsk12.org/

  • Photo I.D. of Parent/Guardian: A driver’s license or any other photo I.D. is acceptable
  • Documentation of Student’s Date of Birth

Please bring ONE of the following:

  • Birth Certificate
  • Hospital Certificate
  • Baptismal or church Certificate
  • Valid Passport

Proof you live at your Address:

  • (Note:  Disconnect notices are not acceptable forms of proof of residency)
    If you own your home, please bring TWO of the following:
    Warranty Deed, Deed of Trust, or Bill of Sales
    Purchase contract with possession date or closing date not more than 90 days out
    Current utility bill i.e. Xcel Energy, or water, mortgage statement or cable bill-your name and address must be clearly marked (both portions of a bill are required.
    property/service address must match mailing address) last or current month.
    Property tax bill for current year(property/service address must match mailing address)

IF YOU RENT, please bring TWO of the following:

  • Current Signed Lease or Rental Agreement
    Current notarized letter from the landlord
    Current utility bill i.e. Xcel Energy, phone (not cell) or water, mortgage statement or cable bill-your name and address must be clearly marked (both portions of a bill are required, property/service address must match mailing address) last or current month.

IF YOU ARE LIVING WITH ANOTHER FAMILY-ALL of the following are required:

  • A current notarized letter from the owner/renter of the residence with who you live stating the length of time you will be staying.
  • Proof of address from the owner/renter of the residence ( see required documents above)
  • If possible, current proof of your residence at that address
  • Immunization Records-Required by state law
  • Previous School Information:
    Name, address, phone and fax number of previous school
  • Withdrawal form from previous school
    Transcripts for students entering high school

Dress Code Enforcement

Hoodies, undershirts, and electronics will be confiscated- no warnings, this is your warning

  • 1st time: keep item until after school! (No expectations) and document in IC
  • 2nd time: Call parent/guardian to notify they must come pick it up, give to main office with students name to keep until a parent picks it up, document in IC
  • 3rd time: write a referral and document in IC

IF a student is out of dress code and the problem cannot be fixed by simply removing the article or changing the student cannot be in class.

  • Student can be sent to the dean or community liaison.
  • Students may borrow clothes, have parents bring in change of clothes or get permission to walk home and change.
  • Students cannot return to class until the problem is fixed
  • Students will be marked tardy or absent if not in class

Dress Code - High School

Collared Shirt

  • Blue, black, white, or grey
  • Any combination of those 4 colors
  • No PE shirts

Bottoms

  • Black only – Black denim is acceptable
  • Shorts and skirts need to be at least past the fingertips or mid-thigh whichever is longer
  • No workout pants, gym shorts, yoga pants, or pajamas.
  • Leggings CANNOT be a top layer

Top

  • Jackets, vests, and sweatshirts DO NOT count as a collar.
  • No middle school sport hoodies- Only Montbello and MLK sport clubs are okay
  • Scarves are okay IF a collared shirt is present AND the scarf is blue, black, white, grey
  • No cleavage
  • No hats, berets, beanies, etc.

Shoes

  • NO flip flops, house shoes, or slippers

Electronics

  • May be used during lunch or off periods
  • All electronics (including headphones) should not be visible in class. They must be in your locker or
  • backpack. Your pocket does not count!

Additional Notes

  • Athletes can wear jerseys ONLY on game days
  • Bottom must still follow dress code
  • Dressing up means dress pants or skirt/dress and blouse or button up shirt
  • School spirit shirts are acceptable

Dress Code - Middle School

Collared Shirt

  • White or gray
  • Shirts can be worn out but must not be excessively long

Undershirt

  • White or gray ONLY
  • PE shirts are ok

Bottoms

  • Solid white, gray and tan/khaki pants may be worn
  • Tan ONLY Shorts and skirts need to be at least past the fingertips or mid-thigh, whichever is longer
  • No workout pants, gym shorts, yoga pants, or pajamas
  • Leggings CANNOT be a top layer
  • Belts must not have any insignia’s on them and worn in the belt loops
  • Slacks/Pants must fit at the waist-sagging pants that drag on the ground are not permitted
  • Corduroy material is acceptable

Top

  • Jackets, vests and sweatshirts
  • DO NOT count as a collar
  • No PE shirts
  • Scarves are okay if a collared shirt is present AND the scarf is white or gray
  • No cleavage
  • No hats, berets, beanies, etc.

Sweaters / Sweatshirts

  • Solid white or gray sweaters or sweatshirts WITHOUT a hood are allowed
  • Solid white or gray collared shirt must be visible underneath

Shoes

  • No flip-flops, house shoes, or slippers

Additional Notes

  • Any logos on clothing may be no larger than 2″ x 2″ and may not contain any references to alcohol or illegal substances, gangs or violence, or inappropriate sexual content
  • Hats and gloves need to be in the locker, not in your pocket
  • Athletes can wear jerseys ONLY on game days, bottom must still follow dress code
  • Athletic T-shirts are NEVER okay
  • Dressing up means dress pants or skirt/dress and blouse or button up shirt
