Martin Luther King Jr. Early College AVID Program

AVID is a National and International program designed to level the playing field for all students to achieve academic success. AVID is a school-wide initiative, not a school within a school. AVID is designed to influence the culture of the entire school. AVIDStudents1:
The mission of AVID is ensure that all students complete a college preparatory path in which they will succeed in the most rigorous curriculum, enter the mainstream activities of the school, increase their enrollment in a 2-4 year college, and become responsible participants and leaders in a democratic society.
AVIDStudents2: Martin Luther King, Jr. Early College is a nationally certified AVID school. We are moving into our 3rd year of school-wide AVID implementation encompassing the middle and high school. Rigorous AVID teaching strategies are utilized in every classroom, including a paradigm called WICR (pronounced "wicker"). WICR is writing to learn, emphasis on inquiry, a collaborative approach, and critical reading strategies.
AVID at Martin Luther King, Jr. Early College is rooted in all aspects of the "MLK WAY", which emphasizes High Expectations, No Excuses, and the Relentless Pursuit of Excellence.
