| AVID is a National and International program designed to level the playing field for all students to achieve academic success. AVID is a school-wide initiative, not a school within a school. AVID is designed to influence the culture of the entire school. |
| The mission of AVID is ensure that all students complete a college preparatory path in which they will succeed in the most rigorous curriculum, enter the mainstream activities of the school, increase their enrollment in a 2-4 year college, and become responsible participants and leaders in a democratic society. |
Martin Luther King, Jr. Early College is a nationally certified AVID school. We are moving into our 3rd year of school-wide AVID implementation encompassing the middle and high school. Rigorous AVID teaching strategies are utilized in every classroom, including a paradigm called WICR (pronounced "wicker"). WICR is writing to learn, emphasis on inquiry, a collaborative approach, and critical reading strategies. |
| AVID at Martin Luther King, Jr. Early College is rooted in all aspects of the "MLK WAY", which emphasizes High Expectations, No Excuses, and the Relentless Pursuit of Excellence. |
