The Student Council program for middle school students is geared toward leadership development. Students join student council through an application process that involves writing a short essay pertaining to their leadership goals. Student Council meetings are generally held once a week throughout the school year. Occasionally, students are asked to organize, plan, and implement schoolwide social and character-building activities. Student Council meetings vary; they can range from leadership development seminars to information and opinion-sharing to community service activities, all geared towards strengthening our school community. Student Council sponsors two to three school socials each year, Teacher Appreciation Week, and Martin Luther King, Jr. and Cesar Chavez holiday awareness and celebrations. In the 2005-2006 school year, Student Council raised a significant amount of money to help with the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. The faculty sponsors are Joe Waldon and Kim Rodriquez.
The high school Student Council is being developed with the input of the high school faculty and student body. It will likely involve representative and officer elections, Town Hall meetings, and community service.
