Rachael D. Amundson – Assistant Principal
My name is Rachael D. Amundson, and I am from Onalaska, Wisconsin. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire with a Bachelors degree in Secondary English Education. I moved out to Colorado in 2005 and started my teaching career at East Middle School in Aurora. I taught 6-8th grade Language Arts and became an in-house literacy coach. It is here that I received an award for “Exceptional Classroom” from the Superintendent. After 5 years at East, and receiving my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction, I moved to Monte Vista Colorado where I taught 9th grade Language Arts and lead Student Council. I also facilitated district professional developments around Readers / Writers Workshop. I then moved to Buffalo, NY where I taught 9th grade English at Oracle Charter School. In 2010, I started teaching at Martin Luther King Jr. Early College. I taught 6th Grade Language Arts for 2 year and started literacy / data coaching in 2013. I took on the position as Dean of Instruction and in 2015 was promoted to Assistant Principal.
I love taking road trips with my parents and our pups. We often go to Canada to visit my mom’s side of the family. I enjoy snowboarding, playing the piano, and live music.
