2023 Fall High School Athletics

Families of Legacy HS, Vista Academy, Montbello Career and Tech, Robert F. Smith Steam Academy (RFSSA), Dr. Martin Luther King HS (DMLK), Northeast Early College, and Montbello HS, The following guidance provides some information as it relates to athletics and CHSAA High School sports programming for the 2023-2024 school year.  

Tryouts and Official Practices for the Fall 2023 Sports Season will begin on July 31, 2023 for Boys Golf and August 7, 2023 for remaining CHSAA Fall Sports ((Varsity Girls Volleyball, Varsity Boys Soccer, Gymnastics, Football, Spirit, Field Hockey, Boys Tennis, Boys Golf, Spirit, and Softball).  The 23-24 CHSAA Calendar and Fall Sports can be found through this link

The FNE Warriors will continue with Varsity Sports ONLY into the 2023-2024 school year. The FNE cooperative programming consists of the following schools: Legacy HS, Robert F. Smith Steam Academy, Vista Academy, Montbello Career and Tech, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Early College (DMLK), Northeast Early College, and Montbello High School. The CHSAA Varsity programming will include Football, Girls Volleyball, Boys Soccer, Softball, Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Baseball, Girls Soccer, and Track and Field. Students that are interested in JV or C-Team Fall Sports programming, and attend Legacy HS, Vista Academy, Montbello Career and Tech, Robert F. Smith Steam Academy, and Northeast Early College, may participate as a “Student Without a Program.”

  • A Student Without a Program (SWOP) student is defined as, “If a student’s school of attendance or nonpublic home-based educational program does not offer an activity in which the student wishes to participate, the student may participate in the activity at another public school in the student’s school district of attendance or in the student’s school district of residence. 
  • The student and family should select a school of participation where they will compete in the majority of their interested sports.
  • Please reach out to the specific schools Athletic Director, for information on lower level athletics programming.

Montbello High School will continue into the 2023-2024 school year, any may offer Junior Varsity and C-Team opportunities for Softball, Football, Boys Soccer, Softball, Girls Volleyball, Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, and Track and Field.   Please connect with the Montbello

Dr. Martin Luther King High School (DMLK) will continue into the 2023-2024 school year, and will offer Junior Varsity and C-Team opportunities for Boys Soccer, Girls Volleyball, Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, and Girls Soccer.  Please connect with the DMLK High School Athletic Director for more information as it relates to the above Junior Varsity and C-Team opportunities: shurrod_maxey@dpsk12.net.

  • DMLK JV/C TEAMS BOYS SOCCER Practices start Aug. 9th from 4-6pm @ Montbello Rec Center.  Questions? Contact Coach Julio 720.840.9686.  
  • DMLK VOLLEYBALL season will begin on Aug. 23rd.  Hit-around/open gym practices will begin Aug.15th, 16th, 17th at DMLK.  Due to construction, hit-arounds may be held outside. Please plan accordingly.  Questions? Contact shurrod_maxey@dpsk12.net or call 720.424.0474.
  • Coed Cheer (Spirit)- Tryout Camp (MUST ATTEND CAMP TO TRYOUT) Aug. 23rd/24th 4:30pm-6pm; TRYOUTS-Aug. 25th 4:30-6pm- All @DMLK.  Athletes must bring water bottle, sneakers, stretchy clothes; no jeans.  Questions?  Contact tyerrajackson4@gmail.com or call 720.329.9966.

Student-Athlete Registration for 2023 Fall Sports

Students must be registered and approved for tryouts and official practices.  Please register your student at www.familyid.com and search for the appropriate school.
A current physical exam must be uploaded to FamilyID or submitted to your Athletic Director.
