James Trainer – Assistant Principal

My name is Jim Trainer, and I am from King of Prussia, Pennsylvania (a suburb of Philadelphia). My alma mater is Lafayette College, where I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. After graduation, I thought that I wanted to become a marine biologist, so I moved to Oregon. At University of Oregon, I learned too much about barnacles and I figured out that I love to teach! I joined Teach For America and I was assigned to teach middle school science at a school on the island of Oahu. After three years there I was ready for a change, so I moved to Denver, taking a position as part of the founding staff at DSST: Green Valley Ranch MS. I joined the DMLK team a few years later, teaching high school Biology. It broke my heart to leave DMLK last school year so that I could serve as Dean of Instruction at nearby Vista Academy and Legacy Options High school and to complete the Ritchie Program for school leaders at University of Denver. I was overjoyed to rejoin the team here in the spring as an Assistant Principal! When I’m not at DMLK, I like to cook, read books, and go to the Denver Zoo with my daughter, Katie Rose.
